Antique English Georgian Solid Silver Porte-Crayon (William Lea & Co, 1825)
A genuine rare antique English Georgian solid sterling silver artist's porte-crayon pencil. Cylindrical shaped plain body with a raised decorated band at the bottom & matching band at the top end finished with a wafer cap seal on the end. A matching decorated centre sliding band in the middle that extends & retracts the propelling mechanism inside which is in excellent working condition. The pencil is fully hallmarked around the top of the body. Please be aware that this is a genuine porte-crayon & not a standard pencil holder. This is due to the fact that the diameter of the holder is larger than a standard pencil holder because it was made for holding black lead or charcoal for artist's to draw with. lovely collectors item.
