Antique Edwardian solid sterling silver chatelaine propelling pencil. Hexagonal shaped body with beautiful bright cut hand chased foliate decoration around the outside & a sliding suspension loop & ring at the top. A raised plain stepped band at the bottom & a removable screw top tapering end with foliate decoration & an inset dark amethyst gemstone cap seal in the end. Inside the top end is a small compartment to store spare leads. A repousse centre sliding band in the middle that extends & retracts the pencil tip. The propelling pencil has a twist action tip which extends & retracts the pencil lead mechanism. Both the mechanisms are in excellent working order. The pencil come complete with a pencil lead in the tip. This pencil The pencil is fully hallmarked on the side of the body. This pencil would have once graced a ladies silver chatelaine probably a house keeper in a grand English house. lovely collectors item.
