A rare antique Victorian solid sterling silver propelling pencil. Hexagonal shaped body with engine turned decoration around the outside of the main body. At the bottom end is a band decorated with an acanthus leaf design around the outside. At the top is a nicely shaped removable screw top, beautifully decorated in a matching acanthus leaves design & inside the top is a small compartment for storing spare leads. On the end is an inset milky jade gemstone cap seal. Just below the top cap is a sliding band decorated in a matching acanthus leaf design which extends & retracts the internal pencil mechanism. The pencil has a twist action tip which extends & retracts the pencil lead mechanism. Both pencil mechanisms are in excellent working order. The pencil comes complete with a lead in the tip. The pencil is marked on the side of the body with the makers mark. As was often the case with small items of silver from this period & of this design it is not hallmarked but has been acid tested to confirm solid sterling silver. Lovely collectors item.
