Antique late Victorian silver plated cheese toasting dish. Rectangular shaped dish with plain sides & gadrooned decoration around the border on the top & bottom. Mahogany turned handle on the back & a domed hinged lid on the top beautifully decorated with raised foliate decoration & a thumb lever at that back. Although this piece was made around 1900 it has been inscribed & was presented to a British Army Major in 1965 as can be seen by the inscription on the front. It also has the Somerset Light Infantry crest added to the cartouche in the centre of the lid. Lovely fully usable collectors item.

Excellent condition with light surface marks that are consistent with genuine age, use & polishing. No dings or dents & just a very minor loss of silver plating to the very extremities for the raised decoration on the lid.
