Description
A fine quality antique sterling silver propelling pencil probably made by Sampson Mordan. Hexagonal shaped body with engine turned & straight line decoration along the length & acanthus leaf decoration at the bottom & the top end. On the top end is a removable repousse decorated tapering screw cap seal with an inset agate stone in a shield shape. Inside the top of the pencil is a revolver/pepperpot spare lead compartment. At the centre of the pencil is a sliding band decorated with matching acanthus leaves that extends & retracts the internal pencil tip. When the tip is turned the internal pencil lead mechanism extends & retracts. Both mechanisms are in complete working order & the pencil comes complete with a lead in the tip. Unmarked but has been tested to confirm it is made of sterling silver & due to the design it is most probably made by Sampson Mordan around 1890. lovely collectors item.
