Antique Victorian papier mache patch box, c1840. Circular patch box, being ebonised with a handpainted portrait of a lady. In original condition. Patch boxes were used as a recepticle for beauty patches, which were all the rage from the 1600's through to the early 1800's. The beauty patches were used to emphasize the whiteness of ones skin. A fantastic addition to any collection. Excellent condition for it's age.
