Description

Antique Victorian Pinchbeck Torpedo earrings, c1880. Nicely detailed & Torpedo shape drop Pinchbeck earrings. Pinchbeck is a metal alloy that you won't encounter in todays jewellery. It was invented in the 18th century by a London clockmaker, Christopher Pinchbeck, to resemble gold  & pinchbeck jewellery was used in places like stagecoaches, where there was a risk of theft. Great addition to any collection. With gift box.

1880 The first electric streetlight is installed in Indiana.

1885 The first pedestal flush toilet is demonstrated at the Beaufort Works, Chelsea.

Condition.

There is a small scratched area to one of the earrings, this is shown in the photographs, but this does not detract from the overall appearance. Good condition with light surface marks that are consistent with genuine age, use & polishing.
