Antique Victorian Solid Silver Combination Propelling Pencil & Dip Pen, c1890
Antique Victorian solid sterling silver combination propelling pencil & dip pen. Cylindrical shaped body with beautiful bright cut hand chased foliate decoration around the outside with a vacant cartouche on the side. At the bottom end is a plain stepped band & at the top is a removable screw top end with an inset bloodstone gemstone cap seal. Inside the top is a small compartment for storing spare leads. On either side of the body is a nicely shaped sliding button, one extends & retracts the internal propelling pencil & the other extends & retracts the internal propelling dip pen. The pencil has a twist action tip which extends & retracts the pencil lead mechanism. All the mechanisms are in excellent working order. The pencil comes complete with a lead in the tip. Please note I have photographed the dip pen with a nib in it but unfortunately I do not have a small enough nib to retract into the body. As was very often the case, the pencil is not marked but has been acid tested to confirm it is solid sterling silver. Lovely collectors item.
