Antique late Victorian solid sterling silver propelling pencil. Unusual square form shape with beautiful bright cut hand chased foliate decoration around the outside & vacant cartouche on one side. There is a round sliding button on one side which extends & retracts the internal pencil tip. The pencil tip has a twist action which extends & retracts the pencil lead mechanism. Both mechanisms are in excellent working order, the pencil lead mechanism is peticularly smooth indicating a sign of good quality. The pencil comes complete with a new pencil lead in the tip. As is often the case with some of these small items of silver from this period & of this design the pencil is un-marked but has been acid tested to confirm solid sterling silver. Lovely collectors item.
